How filament cost per print is worked out
Your slicer reports the weight of a model in grams. Divide the spool price by the spool weight to get a price per gram: a 1 kg spool at $20 costs $0.02 per gram, so a 100 g print uses $2.00 of filament before waste.
Why waste matters
Skirts, brims, purge towers, failed first layers and colour changes all use filament that never ends up in the finished part. A flat 5% is a reasonable starting point for single-colour prints. Multi-material printing can waste far more, so weigh a spool before and after a few jobs and use your own number.
Slicer weights are estimates and can differ a little from the real part. This calculator is for planning only.
